How RCV optimized workflows with a flexible weighing solution

Ready for the future of waste management
RessourceCenter Vejle (RCV) was facing a move to a new headquarters and taking a significant step towards the future of waste management, treating waste as a valuable resource that can be reintroduced into the production cycle. In this context, they needed a new, complete weighing solution that would meet the demands of modern resource management and support new business processes and infrastructure that aligns with the latest standards.
Since not all processes were pre-defined, it was crucial that their new system was flexible and future-proof. Another important requirement was that the weighing on the three newly purchased truck scales should be carried out with minimal data entry while providing as much information as possible about the weighed fractions. Additionally, the weighing process needed to be fast and secure.
RCV decided to replace their old weighing solution with our Weighing Solution 365, an extension of the Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP system they were already familiar with.

From Waste to Resource
RessourceCenter Vejle is a modern recycling center, inaugurated in February 2023. They support recycling and the circular economy, where waste is increasingly seen as a resource that can be reused repeatedly.
The site includes production halls with drop-off areas for private individuals instead of traditional containers, a "communication bridge," as well as office buildings, staff facilities, exhibition spaces, and a workshop where, among other things, upcycling of recycled furniture takes place.
RCV is Denmark's first container-free recycling center, where resources are brought under one roof. This ensures the resources are kept for their further circular life while optimizing workflows in relation to waste management. They also have a special section for daily waste, where it is transferred to biogas plants for further processing.
The entire area, including the recycling center, administration, and production, spans 90,000 square meters, 19,000 of which are covered. RCV can handle and process a minimum of 100,000 tons of waste and recyclable materials annually.
Multiple Weighing Flows
RCV uses several different weighing flows – methods by which trucks are weighed. Some trucks arrive with a single fraction, while others may arrive with a trailer containing various fractions from multiple customers. All of these processes are managed by the weighing solution.
After the system was implemented, more weighing flows were added to the solution, as RCV, after relocating, needed to combine weighings.
Reporting and Data Extraction to Excel
It was important for RCV to document the quantities that enter and exit the resource center, both for businesses and private individuals. This information is used for management reporting, invoicing business customers, and reporting to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency.
In Microsoft Business Central, there are many standard functionalities available to extract data for reporting purposes. To make this easier to use, we created a report on waste data for the Environmental Protection Agency, as well as a report based on calculations of the incoming waste quantities at the recycling center.
Registration at the Weighing Terminal
The stand-alone program is a critical part of the weighing solution. It is here that customer registration and weighing take place before the data is sent to Business Central.
RCV has three truck scales at the weighing terminal. The truck is automatically registered via license plate recognition. When the driver parks on the scale to weigh their truck in or out, the stand-alone program is used.
The stand-alone program is operated via a touch screen, and the layout is specifically designed for fast, easy, and secure operation.
The program connects to external devices, such as cameras, light signals, and barriers at the truck scale, as well as a printer in the terminal for printing a weighing receipt.
Customer Web Portal
The weighing solution also includes a web portal for customers. Here, customers can register declarations/weighing agreements, as well as access historical weighing data, receipts, and approved declarations/weighing agreements.
The solution supports all reporting to the Environmental Protection Agency and includes built-in lookup functionality for Virk.dk, ensuring correct transfer of company data to the weighing solution.
With this, RCV has all the necessary data, which optimizes their workflow by eliminating the need to follow up and collect data both before and after the weighing.
Solution
New Weighing Solution Streamlined Operations
RCV implemented our Weighing Solution 365, built on standard components in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central.
The entire weighing solution consists of an extension to their ERP system, Business Central on-premises, along with a stand-alone program for their weighing terminal and a web portal for their customers.
With this solution, RCV has gained functionality that simplifies their workflows.
- Waste Code Management
Waste codes are linked to individual items and follow the weighings when reported to authorities such as the Danish Environmental Protection Agency. This includes EAK codes from the Environmental Protection Agency. Reporting to the agency can be done either via file or with the agency’s spreadsheet template. - Weighing Agreements (Declarations)
Weighing agreements allow for the addition of various conditions, such as an agreed quantity and a period during which the weighing agreement is valid. This applies to the items weighed for a customer. - Sampling Control
Sampling control can be applied to individual weighing agreements or transporters. - Consolidated Invoicing of Weighings
A report can be generated for a given period, specifying all weighings within that time frame. - Weighing Receipts
Weighing receipts can be printed directly at the weighing terminal by the truck scale. These receipts can also be automatically sent to customers, transporters, and others after a weighing is performed.
Result
A Stable and Reliable Weighing Solution
With the implementation of Weighing Solution 365, RCV is now equipped to handle waste in an efficient and sustainable manner that meets both current and future requirements. They have received a feature-rich and stable weighing solution that can be adapted to their needs.
