Update service

We take the heavy lift for your Business Central Cloud/Online updates/upgrades

When you move your business and financial system from running locally (on-premises) to running online/cloud, you transition to being continuously updated. This comes with an advantage, but also a point you need to consider: When Business Central is upgraded, what does it mean for any customizations, connected systems, or "apps"?

This is where we want to help make the process even easier.

Target Audience

All Business Central Online/Cloud/SaaS customers.

Background

Business Central's yearly cycle consists of 2 major releases and 10 smaller updates.

Microsoft ensures that no changes are made to Business Central that would cause issues with integrations to other Microsoft products – for example, integration with Outlook or Excel.

Suppliers of third-party products from Microsoft AppSource, such as Continia Software A/S, are responsible for ensuring their products pass through updates without issues. The suppliers release new versions continuously to support this, but it is your responsibility to ensure these versions are rolled out.

For customizations and adjustments that you have had added, it is your responsibility to ensure they can be upgraded during a Microsoft upgrade – not Microsoft's. It may very well be that the customizations update without problems, as Microsoft does everything possible to avoid conflicts with existing customizations. If a conflict arises between Business Central and your customizations, and the conflict is not resolved, Microsoft will deactivate the customization(s) causing the conflict within 30-60 days.

This should never be a task you handle alone – it should be done in collaboration with your Business Central partner. To make it as simple and clear as possible, we offer our update service.

The Update Service consists of 2 elements

Part 1

  • Standard Business Central
  • Apps from Microsoft AppSource, including all Continia products
  • Standard Consit packages/extensions, e.g., integration modules for AutoPilot and EazyProject

Part 2

  • Customer-Specific Customizations
Customizations developed specifically for you, also known as PTEs (Per Tenant Extensions)

How We Do It

There are ten smaller updates each year and two major versions. We take full responsibility for these so you can focus on running your business.

  1. We create a copy of your production environment and test that all add-ons (including any customizations we've made for you) can be updated.

  2. We ensure that the test environment can be updated.

  3. We update the production environment (scheduled to run during your environment's update window).

  4. We inform you of the significant changes that Business Central will have with the new version, as well as any changes to third-party products you have from AppSource (that we support).

Prerequisites

App Registration for Automation of Updates

As part of the update service we will be performing for you, an "app registration" needs to be done in your Entra (formerly Azure) admin center.

This registration allows us to automate the management of your Business Central environment.

Available Sandbox

As part of the update, a copy of the production environment is created, which requires an available sandbox in your Business Central environment.

Updating Apps and Our Extensions

The service covers apps from Microsoft AppSource that we support, such as apps from:

  • Continia Software A/S
  • Lessor A/S
  • ForNAV ApS
  • Tasklet Factory
  • DynamicWeb

As well as our developed standard extensions, such as:

The service covers updates in 1 sandbox and 1 production environment. If you wish to update more environments, it will cost an additional 25% per environment.
