Testing of Business Central Backup
How does it work if the worst happens?
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is well protected on Microsoft's platform with enterprise-level security. This is the same platform where some of the world’s largest companies store their data. Despite hearing daily about companies being hacked or losing data, this is not something you need to worry about with Business Central.
However, data can still be lost without being hacked. For example, if an employee accidentally deletes something that shouldn’t have been deleted, or if incorrect data entries over time have disrupted your data foundation. In these cases, the simplest solution is to restore a previous version of the database.
With Business Central, you can restore your database up to 28 days back in time – down to a specific minute.
We offer to test the procedure with you, so you know exactly what to do if something goes wrong.
Target Audience
Business Central customers using the Online/Cloud/SaaS version of Business Central.
Prerequisites
You must have at least one available environment. This means that, by default, you are allowed to create up to four environments (one production environment and three sandbox environments), and one of these environments should be available for this test. The environment can be removed afterward.
This is a data test, not a reconfiguration of connections to third-party products.
How We Do It
1 Teams Meeting
A brief meeting where we go through the steps and suggest which data you should keep an eye on.
2 Extraction of Comparison Data
At the agreed time, you extract relevant data, such as debtor and creditor entries, into Excel.
3 Database Restoration
At the agreed time, we restore your database to the specific day and time we agreed upon in step 1.
4 Testing the Restored Database
You test the restored database and compare it with the data extracted to Excel in step 2. If something doesn’t match, we will clarify and resolve it.
