Sustainability Plan 2023-2027
We are an IT company where most products and deliverables are digital and do not require physical production or distribution.
Over the past few years, we have been continuously working on sustainability. As part of this effort, for example, the entire cooling system in the server room was replaced in the summer of 2023, resulting in a direct reduction of electricity consumption by 20.5% per month.
A newly established steering committee, consisting of the leaders of the individual subsidiaries and group management, decided in 2023 to initiate structured work and develop a sustainability plan for the years 2023 – 2027.
This work has now begun, and a formalized plan with goals for 2027 regarding CO2 reduction and other sustainability initiatives will be developed.
Purpose of this Sustainability Plan
At Consit, we want to contribute in every way we can to ensure a sustainable future for the coming generations. We believe that a collective initiative that secures a sustainable future fosters unity and loyalty among employees, management, customers, and suppliers. Therefore, we have taken on this task with pride and look forward to working toward our established goals by 2025.
Towards Our Suppliers
In the future, we will collaborate with suppliers who are also working towards a sustainable future. We will continuously adjust our requirements on how our suppliers and their products meet sustainability and CO2 reduction criteria.
Towards Our Customers
With this plan, we aim to show our customers that we take sustainability seriously and that we will do everything we can to meet their sustainability requirements from their suppliers.
Towards Our Employees
Our commitment to this sustainability plan is also part of our core values, which we have developed together with our employees.
Specific initiatives that impact individual employees will also be integrated into our employee handbook.
Employee Education and Competence Development
Throughout the process, we will plan and hold informational meetings, courses, and other activities for employees, ensuring that all staff members are actively involved in this sustainability plan.
This will help ensure that the goals of the plan are met, but also inspire and motivate employees to take the next step and implement initiatives within their own areas, thereby contributing to the collective and global effort towards sustainability.
Goal for 2026:
- Preparations for employee training on CSRD and ESG have begun in 2024, with the goal of having all employees attend various internal information sessions on these topics by 2025.
- These information sessions will be tailored to the different employee groups based on their tasks and responsibilities.
Sustainability Areas
Our sustainability plan is divided into the three main categories outlined in the Brundtland Commission’s 1987 report *"Our Common Future"*, which forms the foundation for international sustainability efforts:
- Climate/Environmental Sustainability
- Economic Sustainability
- Social Sustainability
The 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals are also divided into these three categories.
Overall Goals
This plan will, as far as possible, follow the guidelines and recommendations from the following initiatives:
- UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
- Roadmap for a Green Denmark
- Greenhouse Gas Protocol
Objectives 2023 - 2027
The overall objectives set in this plan are as follows:
2023
In 2023, the focus was on identifying the low-hanging fruits that could be directly addressed to make changes.
The goal was to gain an overview of the areas where the group was already consciously or unconsciously working to improve.
Sub-goal: Decision to develop a comprehensive "Sustainability Plan" is made, and initial initiatives are mapped and explained.
2024
In 2024, the goal was to set concrete objectives by the end of the year on where to focus efforts to reduce CO2 (GHG) emissions and which other areas within social sustainability should be targeted.
The final plan for 2027 should be ready by the end of the year and be initiated at the beginning of 2025.
Sub-goal: By the end of the year, the final 'sustainability plan' is formulated and adopted by the management team. The implementation plan for the group and its subsidiaries is included.
2025
In 2025, the goal is to start looking at the requirements for the upcoming CSRD directive from the EU, where more companies will need to start reporting their sustainability figures.
While we are not directly affected by CSRD, many of the group’s customers are within the target groups that must report under the CSRD directive. Therefore, it is important to understand how the CSRD directive affects customers and whether there are opportunities to develop services in this area.
Sub-goal: By the end of the year, most of the company's local suppliers will be within a 10 km radius. Additionally, more employees will work from home to reduce daily commuting.
2026
During 2026, the goal is to assess whether the group should be certified under, for example, ISO 14001 (Environmental Management) or whether implementing the "Environmental Compass" is an appropriate first step.
Additionally, the goal is for all employees across the group’s companies to receive basic training on CSRD.
Sub-goal: By the end of the year, a plan for 2027 regarding the implementation of ISO 14001 certification or the "Environmental Compass" will be established.
2027
The final goals for 2027 will be set by the end of 2026, and a comprehensive implementation plan with activities and annual sub-goals will be initiated.
Existing Initiatives
Over an extended period, we have already undertaken activities that contribute to improved sustainability. Some initiatives have been unconscious or not directly planned, while others have been initiated to participate in the broader efforts for better sustainability. In connection with this sustainability plan, we have identified these early initiatives and now categorized them into the three overarching groups.
Current Initiatives:
Climate and Environmental Sustainability
Electricity Consumption
- We are working with our landlord (DEAS A/S) to ensure that our electricity is as "green" as possible.
- Goal: Indirect reduction of GHG emissions.
- Goal: Indirect reduction of GHG emissions.
- At the same time, we are continuously working to ensure that new electronic devices consume as little electricity as possible. This will help reduce our overall electricity consumption by XX% by 2025.
- In the summer of 2021, the cooling system in the server room was replaced, which led to a direct reduction in electricity consumption by 20.5%.
- For light sources where possible, timers are installed so that lights are not left on outside working hours or during periods when a room is not in use.
Heating Consumption
- We are working with our landlord (DEAS A/S) to ensure that our heating is as "green" as possible.
- Goal: Indirect reduction of GHG emissions.
- Goal: Indirect reduction of GHG emissions.
- Thermostats have been installed on all heaters.
Commuting
- After the COVID-19 crisis, where many employees worked from home for extended periods, we explored ways to reduce commuting. By creating new models for remote work, the goal is to reduce the total number of kilometers driven by employees each year.
- Goal: Direct reduction of GHG emissions.
- Goal: Direct reduction of GHG emissions.
- After the pandemic, the use of remote work increased significantly, and it became clear that it is possible to create a hybrid working model to reduce overall commuting. After a period of adjustment post-COVID-19, the number of remote workdays in 2023 and 2024 stabilized at an average of about two days per week. Typically, employees with the longest commutes and driving in their own cars work from home the most. This leads to a larger reduction in CO2 compared to employees who live close by and often use public transport.
Green Canteen
- In collaboration with other companies in the building, we have worked together to ensure that the food in the canteen is as green as possible. In dialogue with our supplier, we continuously work to replace food options with greener alternatives.
- Goal: Indirect reduction of GHG emissions.
- Goal: Indirect reduction of GHG emissions.
- In 2023, changes were made to the canteen menu, with more vegetarian dishes being offered compared to before.
Water Consumption Reduction
- We have worked with the landlord to ensure that water consumption is reduced as much as possible. Dual-flush toilets have been installed, and all faucets have been checked to ensure they are not dripping or wasting water.
- We have installed an environmentally friendly dishwasher with low water consumption.
General Office Waste
- Most waste is sorted and placed in the designated containers set up by the landlord. This includes paper, plastic, organic material, and small combustible items.
- We have five separate containers for waste sorting.
Within the area of climate sustainability and CO2 emissions, our goal is to implement the "Climate Compass" from the Danish Business Authority by 2025. The Climate Compass is a CO2 calculation tool based on the standards of the "GHG Protocol," which is the global standard for calculating CO2 and other greenhouse gases (GHGs).
With this tool, we can calculate annual GHG emissions and set targets for 2026 based on an internationally recognized standard, which will also lay the foundation for our future green accounting.
Economic Sustainability
We are actively working to stimulate the circular economy, which promotes innovation and job creation, in order to create sustainable and lasting economic growth. The circular economy not only conserves the planet's resources but also ensures that already extracted resources are recycled in new and creative ways.
Electronics and Furniture
- Electronic waste is collected and taken to the local recycling center, where it is sorted into appropriate bins and containers.
- Furniture, such as desks, chairs, and other office items, is also taken to the recycling center and sorted in the correct bins and containers.
Purchasing Electronics
- When purchasing new electronic devices, such as PCs and similar items, the purchaser must ensure that, at the time of disposal, the item can be incorporated into the circular economy.
Purchasing Furniture
- We rarely purchase new furniture. Instead, we often reuse furniture from the companies we acquire or from within the group.
- We aim to reuse existing furniture as much as possible by reorganizing offices more efficiently.
Social Sustainability
We have always had a very inclusive employee policy. No distinction is made based on age, gender, race, or personal matters such as religion or sexuality. We continuously work on the group’s CSR policy, which aims to stimulate and promote opportunities for employees, customers, suppliers, partners, and stakeholders in the local community.
Hiring New Employees
- All job postings clearly state that we advocate for equality and inclusion.
Local Suppliers
- Whenever possible, we use local suppliers for office supplies, catering, beverages for the kitchen, cleaning, plant services, and more.
- This is done to support the local community and ensure that suppliers do not have to drive unnecessary distances.
- Most suppliers are located within a 10 km radius of us.
- By the end of 2023, more than 50% of all suppliers will be located within a 10 km radius. When renewing contracts or selecting new suppliers, we will prioritize those within a 10 km radius, if feasible.
Interns
- We regularly have interns from various educational institutions. We aim to signal that we are open to knowledge sharing and providing young people with the best opportunities as part of their education.
- We have had interns in 2024 and 2025.
Flexible Work Conditions
- We offer flexible work conditions to ensure a good work-life balance.
- This includes offering remote work days. In addition to reducing CO2 emissions from commuting, this also helps employees with children to have more flexibility and manage their daily routines better.
- CO2 emissions from remote work; see section on “commuting".
